About Our Sewer Scope Inspections

You should plan on a plumbing scope inspection before purchasing a home, even a newly constructed home.

A sewer line is often one of the most costly things to repair in a home. Getting a sewer scope inspection can help you avoid investing in a home that has serious issues with the sewer/septic system. Unfortunately sewer repairs are NOT typically covered by homeowners insurance, so you would need to pay out of pocket.

What Is a Sewer Scope?

A sewer scope is when our inspector runs a video camera through the lateral sewer line, leading from the house and connecting to the city or septic tank to check for blockages, damage, leaks and other problems.

The lateral sewer line is the privately-owned pipeline connecting the property to the publicly-owned main sewer line, or septic tank.

During the sewer inspection, a specially designed camera on a long cable will view the inside of your sewer drain line. This process typically takes about 30 minutes and the camera will record a video which we will include in the report.

Common causes of sewer line problems:

  • Broken pipes
  • Tree roots
  • Debris
  • Offset or disconnected pipes
  • Belly or low spot where the pipe has settled, and debris can be caught.

Did you know that water damage is the second most common type of insurance claim? Between 20-30% of all property damage is caused by water. A sewer backup into the home can be particularly detrimental to your property and health because you could be exposed to bacteria, pathogens, and other harmful substances.

We offer these services exclusively with a home inspection.
